ooking through the trees - A distorted diary 2010-2011 is a great collection of the poetic and art, as a memoir could be, by Max Rohr. The art works were produced between 2010 and 2011 and are commoned by a pale tone and a strong and resolute line, which gives consistency to the images. All around is silence, absolute quiteness, which casts the figures and lanscape in (ec)static atimospheres. All characters have sweet, relaxed and have serene cheekbones; their sight is elusive, fixing intensivly the vacuum space all over, as if they feel like to see someone or something. That way of looking at is a way to going into deep of themselves. Men and women, the old and the young are statue-like: they resemble the cedar of the Lebanon in their way of beeing, like immortal sequoias, where objects grow like branches or musks. The real characters of these artworks are the objects themselves. They are totally useless in their function, but relevant in their meaning, from the artist’s point of view: they are just as they are. They form a iconographic frame impacting on soul and conscience. These are more forms, than realy objects, almost bodyless, fluctuating in the doubt. In addiction, the inconsistency of perspective is totally destabilizing. Max Rohr refused the traditional visual pyramid of perspective, aborting the “visual science” and applying an incorrect and out of proportion sight, like great Maestros in the XIV Century. The space is conflicting, what’s inside is outside, the big is small and viceversa. The Artist does not limit himself in self-portraiting on canvas, while he identifies himself in the art work, adopting an independent form out of history and time. Thanks to a diversification mechanism and the deformation of reality, the artist suggests a culture of rememberings (uncoherent ones of what he is experiencing and has experienced). This artworks reflect wholly his characters: organisms with an overfload of meanings, turning into images becoming living objects.
